Royalties

To receive royalties, the Press must have a current tax form on file: a W-9 for U.S. citizens, a W-8BEN (W-8BEN Instructions) for non-U.S. citizens, or a W-8BEN-E (W-8BEN-E Instructions) for non-U.S. entities. Tax forms are available to download for your convenience. Please email completed tax forms to cfoster@mississippi.edu or mail to Cynthia Foster, University Press of Mississippi, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211, USA.

To receive your royalties via direct deposit, please complete and return an ACH Form. If you have any questions about direct deposit, please contact Veronica Smith in the Press’s business office. Please email questions or completed ACH forms to vsmith@mississippi.edu or mail to Veronica Smith, University Press of Mississippi, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211, USA.

Q: When will my payment arrive?

A: Royalties are issued based on the author’s contract. Most royalties are paid for the fiscal year ending June 30th at the end of the following August or September.

Q: How do I change my address?

A: Please send an email to our business office with your new address. Please be sure to include your name, address, phone number, and email address. Or you can send a letter and address it to our business office (Business Office, University Press of Mississippi, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211, USA). We do not accept address changes over the telephone.

Q: Can royalties be paid in foreign currencies?

A: Yes, but only wire payments for foreign banks and you will be charged a $50 fee. Contact the business office for a form. To avoid a wire transfer fee please inquire about international payments via PayPal.

Q: Will I receive a 1099?

A: You will receive a 1099 if you receive a payment from UPM. For checks sent in 2024, a 1099 will be mailed to you the following February so that you can complete your 2024 tax return. If you have not received a 1099 for 2024 by February 1, 2025 please send an email to our business office.

Q: I was previously not a U.S. citizen, but I recently attained U.S. citizenship. How does this affect my royalties?

A: Please email the business office.
